Community Grocery

Our Community Grocery is now open!

Hattersley Community Grocery is created through a partnership between The Message Trust, St Barnabas Church, and supported by Tameside Council, and the UK Government. Together, we share one united goal: to ensure local families have access to affordable food, practical support, and a welcoming community during the ongoing cost‑of‑living crisis.

The Message Trust brings years of experience in tackling poverty, building community, and creating spaces where dignity, hope, and practical help come together. Their vision of “Love God, Love People” shapes everything about the grocery — from the warm welcome at the door to the wrap‑around courses that help members build confidence, skills, and stability.

St Barnabas Church plays a vital role in grounding the Grocery in the heart of Hattersley. As a church committed to serving its neighbours, St Barnabas provides not only the building but the relational foundation: a place where people can find connection, belonging, and support. The Grocery is an extension of the church’s mission to love the community in practical, meaningful ways.

Together, these partnerships make the Grocery more than a food service. It is a bridge between crisis and long‑term change — offering dignity, choice, community, and opportunities for growth.

Molly, the manager, and Jade, the assistant manager, are honoured to help deliver this mission on the ground. Their role is simply to carry forward the heart of The Message Trust and St Barnabas Church: welcoming every member with kindness, respect, and a commitment to seeing Hattersley flourish.
